Special Cases】 Appeal to release Chinese writer Dr. Liu Xiaobo, now charged of inciting subversion of state power Liao Tienchi
To arrest and charge Dr Liu Xiaobo is a severe violation against human rights, and also a threat to the practices of democracy in other countries. We strongly appeal to the German government to remind the Chinese government that to charge and put on trial Dr. Liu Xiaobo is a violation of China’s own constitution as well as Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which China is a signatory. The Beijing government should release Mr. Liu Xiaobo immediately and unconditionally. Signatory

June Fourth 】 Tyranny is blind in China, but not justice Liao Tienchi
People would liken the plight of the Uighurs to that of the Tibetans. Although you are not forced to go exile like Dalai Lama and his people, you are forced into exile in your own homeland. Chinese communist party seeks to stamp out your culture, language and religion. You must celebrate your own history and culture, and share it with the world. Do not let the Chinese government , master of manipulation ,interpret your history. In seeking allies in your movement, do not forget the Han Chinese who have been just as much victims of the Communist Party as you have. Although justice in China is not blind, Tyranny is. It is only with solidarity among all victims of Communist oppression that a victory over the evils of injustice can be won.

June Fourth 】 Racing with Terror Zhou Qing
I believe that terrors and lies are the most important methods that all dictators exercise to maintain control. They can apply the resources of the whole country, for occupying, overriding and terrifying citizens at any cost. Meanwhile, they constantly produce lies to distort history and reality. The terror and lies are spreading over the whole country of China, to pollute and to drug the people in various social groups. I would define this as “National Terrorism”.

Special Report and Commentary】 A Speech on the Oslo Freedom Forum Jung Chang
Today, in the civilized world, the deniers, the apologists, and the worshippers, have lost credibility. This shift of attitude is a seismic change, and for this, the biggest credit must go to personal memoirs.

CIC News Express】 Laogai Museum to Host Special Exhibition on Tibet Laogai Research Foundation
The Laogai Museum, in cooperation with the Laogai Research Foundation (LRF) and the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), will be hosting a special exhibition, Laogai in Tibet, from March 27th through May 30th, giving a pictorial overview of the past 50 years of human rights in Tibet under Chinese rule. The year 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising of 1959 and the exile of the Dalai Lama.

Special Report and Commentary】 Letter to President Obama over the nomination of Charles W. Freeman to chair NIC Harry Wu
It is my opinion that Mr. Freeman’s close relationship with Chinese government entities and his history of supporting the repressive Chinese regime will critically undermine his ability to serve as the chairman of the NIC. I hope you will reconsider appointing Mr. Freeman to this important post.

Human Rights】 Legislation Regulating Controversial Human Body Displays Passes Three House Committee Hurdles
House Bills 28 and 29, which would regulate commercial dead human body displays, passed the Finance Committee Tuesday. The bills, spurred by the controversy over the “Bodies …The Exhibition” recently hosted at Honolulu’s Ala Moana Center will likely make their way to the Senate as early as during next week’s crossover.

Around The World】 Obama intel pick works for Chinese government
There was concern the deal would give China a major foothold in the U.S. economy and would also boost Chinese influence and political clout worldwide, particularly in Asia, where Unocal maintained major holdings in Thailand, Burma, Indonesia, Vietnam and Bangladesh.

CIC News Express】 Harry Wu urges Obama Administration to make human rights in China a priority CIC
Today, Harry Wu, the Executive Director of the Laogai Research Foundation, along with a number of other human rights activists, joined Representatives Chris Smith, Frank Wolf, Joseph Pitts, and Mike Pence in a press conference urging the Obama administration to make human rights a priority in its foreign policy toward China.

Dialogue】 Discussing Counterrevolution with Chen Fengxiao Li Changyu
Does "power from the barrel of a gun" require a nation-wide sweep in which 710,000 people are killed and millions are labeled "counterrevolutionaries" to impose a "stable regime"? Looking back at the 60 years since the founding of the PRC, it appears that the crux of consolidating power lies in whether the people enjoy true democracy and freedom, whether the economy can bring prosperity, and whether the people can effectively monitor the government.

Chinese Landscape】 Satire of Yu Qiuyu Tearfully Admonishing Petitioning Professors Yu Jie
We have to learn to be grateful rather than bumptiously nitpicking and causing trouble for the government. President's Hu's statement that we should "not be sidetracked" is the more authoritative voice of our era. We need to increase our political consciousness and not dance down the rightist path.

West Meets East】 China's 8888 versus American Initiative Cao Changqing
If the Chinese people really want to "take off," they must first of all abandon their dependence on externals and groups. They need to acknowledge their own indomitable spirits -- using "my" brain and hands to create "my" world and not allowing amorphous outside powers to control and swallow "myself" up.

Special Cases】 Alliance of Chinese Rights Defenders Voices Concern Over Zhang Qi's Case
At present the case falls under the "Law to Protect State Secrets," but that law has a fatal flaw in that there is not authoritative legal definition of what constitutes a "state secret." The Alliance feels this magnifies the backwardness of rule of law in China.

Friday Editorial 】 Overseas Chinese Student's Murder Case Raises Questions on China's Education System Gu Yuan
Shortcomings in the education system, the lack of religion and a culture of violence can lead to psychological problems. China's education system stresses training professional talent with little attention to psychological needs, to the detriment of individual students and to the nation.

CIC News Express】 Maoist Skeleton Begins to Emerge from CCP Closet China Information Center
Apart from the intensification of social contradictions in China, the theoretical impasse confronting many Chinese citizens has led to a revival of Mao worship. In June 2007, a "red sect" with Mao at its core began to make its presence known on the Internet. At the end of 2008, Wuyou Zhixiang began preparations for a series of ceremonies dedicated to Mao, which were formally announced early this year. On December 26, a Maoist Communist Party was established on the anniversary of Mao's death.

Around The World】 Two Telling Details from the Obama Inauguration Liang Wendao
We have to understand that for members of Congress and former Presidents alike, the veneration of the American political elite is not aimed only at Obama personally, but at the Presidency, the executive leader chosen by the people through election. Put more precisely, they are presented not only with a specific individual, but with a system, an abstract position created by the people.
